Anthropic ships Claude Opus 4.8 and raises $65B
A new Opus model, bigger Code runs, and a $65B raise

Anthropic released Claude Opus 4.8 on Thursday, with same-price access, faster fast mode, effort controls in Claude, and a new Claude Code feature for much larger engineering runs.
The same day, Anthropic announced a $65 billion Series H at a $965 billion post-money valuation, tying the product update directly to the compute and enterprise scale race.
Today's lineup
- Claude Opus 4.8 is available now at the same regular price as Opus 4.7.
- Claude Code dynamic workflows can fan out tens to hundreds of parallel subagents for large codebase tasks.
- Anthropic raised $65 billion and says Claude revenue run rate crossed $47 billion earlier this month.
Anthropic | Opus 4.8 lands at the same price
Anthropic says Claude Opus 4.8 improves on Opus 4.7 across coding, agentic tasks, reasoning, and professional work. Regular pricing is unchanged at $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens.
The model also ships with a cheaper fast mode. Anthropic says fast mode for Opus 4.8 can run at 2.5 times the speed and is now three times cheaper than fast mode on previous models.
The useful reader-facing change is effort control. Claude users can now choose how much work Claude puts into a response, trading speed and rate-limit usage against deeper thinking for harder tasks.

Claude Code | Dynamic workflows go bigger
Anthropic also introduced dynamic workflows in Claude Code. The feature lets Claude write orchestration scripts, split a large task into subtasks, and run many subagents in parallel before checking and combining the results.
Anthropic says the feature is built for codebase-wide bug hunts, migrations, modernization work, security audits, and other tasks that can stretch across thousands of files. One example in the launch post describes a Bun rewrite from Zig to Rust with about 750,000 lines of Rust and 99.8% of the existing test suite passing after eleven days from first commit to merge.
Dynamic workflows are available in research preview in the Claude Code CLI, Desktop, VS Code extension, Claude API, Amazon Bedrock, Vertex AI, and Microsoft Foundry. Anthropic warns they can use far more tokens than a normal Claude Code session.
Anthropic | The funding round is about capacity
Anthropic says its $65 billion Series H was led by Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks, and Sequoia Capital, with a post-money valuation of $965 billion.
The company tied the money to three concrete needs: safety and interpretability research, more compute for Claude demand, and scaling the products and partnerships customers use. The round also includes strategic infrastructure partners Micron, Samsung, and SK hynix.
Anthropic says it has recently signed for up to five gigawatts of new Amazon capacity, five gigawatts of next-generation TPU capacity with Google and Broadcom, and GPU capacity through SpaceX's Colossus 1 and Colossus 2.
Why it matters now
Anthropic paired a new Opus model with controls for effort, bigger Claude Code execution, and a funding round aimed at the infrastructure behind those workloads.
The near-term fight is turning into a practical question: which lab can make agents reliable enough for long work, cheap enough to run often, and available enough that enterprise customers do not hit capacity walls.
What to watch next
Watch how often dynamic workflows get used outside controlled engineering examples. The feature is powerful, but its cost profile and review model will decide whether teams use it daily or reserve it for major migrations and audits.
Also watch Anthropic's Mythos timeline. The Opus 4.8 post says Anthropic expects to bring Mythos-class models to customers in the coming weeks once stronger cyber safeguards are ready.
